A Marathon of Debate Competitions in December!
This December, our school has been exceptionally active in debating. We took part in several tournaments and, in addition to sharpening our skills, we enjoyed the experience and received highly positive feedback from the juries.
Firstly, we participated in the debate competition organised by the Government of Navarre, where the motion was: “Social Media should be forbidden for the under-16s.” On the 11th of December, a team of students — Eneko, Yasmín, Hugo, Marianna, and Yasemin — selected from all 2º ESO groups and prepared by Rafael Maceira, represented the school. They performed with great commitment, gained valuable experience, and showcased excellent teamwork throughout the competition.

On the 12th of December, it was the turn of the team representing 3rd and 4th ESO and prepared by Beronike Molano: Mateo Echegoyen, Pablo Irigoyen, Bader Imiri, Daniela Bustamante, and Nahia Rodríguez. After a demanding and closely contested round, the team delivered an outstanding performance and proudly reached the semifinals! This success would not have been possible without the support of other students who, although not competing directly, played a key role in preparation. We would like to thank Vera Rodríguez, Aitana De Miguel Mauleón and Marwa Boucherit.

Finally, on the 16th and 17th of December, our Bachillerato students took the stage at the XI San Cernin Debate in English competition. This year’s motion posed a real challenge: Are young people truly aware of the dangers of taking drugs?
The excitement among our students was palpable, and we proudly fielded two teams: Fiji — Anne Chen, Xinjie Chocarro, Anais Martín, Javier Ventura, and Markel Juango — and Canada — Asunción Bindang, Emma Twene, Mirabell Augustt, and Oscar Odigie. Two teacher looked after the teams this year: Maria Prieto and Agnes Felczak. Both teams grew stronger and more confident with each debate, demonstrating skill, determination, and teamwork every step of the way.
After a long and intense competition, and having defeated three other teams, the Canada team faced a tough showdown against Barbados (Miavalles Redín School). Despite being narrowly eliminated, they finished proudly in third place, a fantastic achievement for the school.

Congratulations to ALL of you who had the courage to take the stage, stand before fellow debaters and the jury, and defend your team’s position — what an incredible challenge you embraced!
What a wonderful debating culture we are building in our school!
